KAREEM "SCOOBY" JOHNSON Scooby, an original member of Da Duffa Bag Boyz, was born Kareem Johnson on June 24, 1984. He states that the day he was born the world stood still. He is a Shreveport, Louisiana native that has been burning up the streets with his fierce tracks, gutta undertones and unique swagger for the last two and a half years. He attended Woodlawn High School where he gained massive attention for his skills on the basketball court. His attentions are to conquer the world and have his name etched on several platinum plaques. He states, "That its all about your swag and how the world perceives you and your style." He confesses that he will reign supreme in this rap game. He feels that everyone has a special calling on his life and he says spitting game about the streets to the streets is his. He is an innovator, a street educator. He admits sometimes he is a student, learning and evolving is essential to sustaining and maintaining. Scooby is one of eight children, every since he could remember he wanted to play in the NBA. He worked hard and he played hard until the father died. He says that when he lost his father something in him died, his dream became his nightmare because it brought too much pain. His father was his #1 fan. He left the game and walked out into the streets he now calls home. His mother nourished him through his pain and anger. She told him it does not matter what he does in life as long as he does it well. Although Scooby is a member of Da Duffa Bag Boyz, he is currently working on a solo project which is being produced by Slack Traxx Entertainment. The group feels that it is fine to go out and do solo projects as long as they remember where home is. He has worked with Lil Boosie and hopes to work with artists like Busta, Weebie, T.I., and Plies.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I first started recording music in St.Louis, MO. After doing it for fun and enjoying it, I realized that it's easy to tell your Life story on a beat, when it's all facts. The journey took a Lot of pain, blood, sweat, and tears, as a Independent artist. But the inspiration of my father Rickey Deming, and mother Christine Wright / Johnson encouraged me to keep pushing because I was Born to be a Star!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
My first time performing live, was at Linwood Middle School. I was in the 7th grade I think. We had a school talent show, so me and my brothers song Momma from the movie Soul Food!
Your musical influences
I grew up under UGK, Mr. Magic, Juvenile, Hot Boy's, Chopped And Screwed, etc. The 90's music was a different kind of toxic.
What equipment do you use?
Phantom X6
