Hiy! I write game music, original and re-arranged.Have you performed in front of an audience?I do not think I can ever play live... I can weakly play violin and saxophone, but I am only one person! A game bgm has lots of instruments and stuff going on! At least I do not have to sing, since most of my pieces are instrumental. (I sing terrible!)
Your musical influences
I like game music. :B Ever since I was tiny, I liked listening to game bgm. I hum the tunes while I played or did homework. Now I try to compose my own, with no musical training whatsoever.
Game bgm is not really a big genre, but it is growing. I think, it is embarassing to hum a game tune in public! Nobody will know what it is!
I like mainstream music as well... but I like obscure music, game music, a little better. Music is nice because we associate it with our memories. Most people associate a song with a memory that they like, driving in a car on the weekend, a live concert... However, for me my favorite memories are playing videogames and being a kid! So, that is why I like game music more than mainstream music, though they are increasingly becoming less exclusive from one another, don't you think?
In a country like Japan, this is already established. There is little differentiation between game bgm and pop-culture! Artists contribute to game soundtracks like they were movies. I hope someday it will be like this elsewhere! So, I write my game music with no regard for how it will be called "weird" or "not popular"... I simply want people to enjoy the notes I picked out. :3What equipment do you use?
I use an 7 year-old aging but loyal Toshiba Satellite laptop, a very very battered Logitech Trackball mouse, and a pair of sony headphones given to me by a friend. It is the kind that slips over your ear! Not many people like ear-slip headphones or trackballs, but I guess that is more testament to how strange my tastes are... I am also very poor! (laughs)Anything else?
