J W Carter's Biography I was born in Houston, Texas in a little ghetto neighborhood named Settigast. When at the tender age of 6, I realized how much music was running through my bones. I can still remember dancing in church to my dad and my first cousin, Clerence Carter's guitar playing. I got my butt beat when we got home later on that night. At the age of 9, I fell in love with the sounds of the Jackson 5, and the Stylistics. These two vocal groups had something that I loved about them. It was a 5th tenor, leading the group vocals. I then started mimicking Michael Jackson, for he too could sing and dance very well. By the age of 10, I started playing the drums on a 12-piece drum set. I played left handed, I'm actually right handed but, the owner of the drum set wouldn't let me switch them around. I also had an obsession with the bass guitar. By the time I reached 19, I could finally afford to buy a cheap $100 bass guitar, so I began to practice on it. For 8 hours a day, seven days a week. Boy, did I practice! I can remember my fingers getting a black dot on them, and afterwards bleeding a lot. I didn't let it stop me, because I just had to learn to play like my hero, William Bootsy Collins of the super group Parliment-Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubber Band, thanks Bootsy! At 22, I started playing for my church, and we did 2 recordings with a local artist in which I played the bass guitar and sung tenor, and alto in the choir. God, I miss those days. The good old times. Sadly, after 1997, I stopped attending church, and besides, I was playing locally in different genres of bands, including my own band, The Highest Heights, as lead vocals and bass guitar. This got me much attention, and the nickname "Bass man" in the hood. I use to have to catch the bus to gigs, and band workouts 4 times a week. Until recently, about 1 1/2 years ago, I had never touch a keyboard. That's when I stumbled across a website called: www.motifator.com where I met one of the nicest people God created, Mark Liebrand. This fella took me into his heart and soul, and is still to this very moment, guiding me to success in life and music. So as you can probably tell, I owe a lot to the world of music and I am living my life to repay a debt that may never get fully paid. If you ever would like to work on collaboration with me, feel free to contact me via my MySpace Page at: www.myspace.com/jw14211. "May God bless you and keep you always, in love, life, and music". A special shout out to Dj Darkside A.K.A. Mark Liebrand, owner and operator of Darkside Productionz.
