Juliette Jazz

Hello Im Juliette Jazz and I'm a singer from Australia. I've sung with orchestras, bands, trio, duos, karaoke, flim flams, solo, and theatre productions. Im currently working on an album of my own original songs. I have written over 70 lyrics, but as I am not a musician, I am constantly seeking composers and musicians to collaborate with me in turning my words into great songs.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
At age 14 she began singing lessons. Age 16, singing in Queensland Youth Choir. Formed a duo with a guitar player Harmonee and sang R.S.L. clubs and bowls club circuits. Age 17 left school and auditioned for Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company , and after performing in several musicals with them, became hooked on the stage, and performed with many other semi professional theatre companies in Brisbane over the next 5 years. Age 20 joined a band called Riff Rapt, and we sang at various clubs around Brisbane and had a residency every Friday night in Her Majestys Bar in Queen Street. Age 22 Moved to Sunshine Coast and auditioned for Les Miserables, and won the role of Eponine. I then joined a talented troup of jingle writers and singers and we performed flim flam singing telegrams for private parties. Age 23 formed a duo Menage and sang all around the Sunshine coast, and were regular entertainers for Senior Police functions. I competed in a karaoke singing competition at the Sheraton Hotel, and won first prize and was noticed by one of the judges who was looking for a compere on the Coast, so at 24 I began working as for Karaoke Unlimited, (John Preston) and was his resident compere at the Canoe club in Mooloolaba every Sunday night for 3 years. I worked on a casual basis as a karaoke compere, and flim flam singer for various companies for a few years, until I began working as a singing waitress in a rock and roll restaurant in Caloundra, called Velvet Waters. I waitressed, and sang and danced there for 4 and a half years. . I finally moved on to Jeromes Restaurant whre I sang in a trio Rio Trio for 4 years and then when Jerome sold the restaurant, the new owners kept me on because I had such a strong following, and now I have been at Jeromes for 7 years, and have a repertoire of over 400 songs, ranging from olden classis like Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Ella Fitzgerald, through 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and through to recent hits like Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams, Missy Higgins, Jet, Kelly Clarkson, Nelly Fertado, and Michael Buble. Over the last year, I have felt compelled to write my own songs, and found that as soon as I put pen to paper, it flowed naturally. I have now written approx 60 songs, of which 9 have been professionally recorded with local musicians and overseas composers. ( a copy of my songs are available via email on mp3 format)
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have played recently at some long residencies in Caloundra in Queensland, and I had a good following and rapport with my audiences. Getting big tips or compliments always makes it special.
Your musical influences
Ella Fitzgerald impressed me with her roller coaster vocals and scatting abilities, I loved Frank Sinatra's phrasing and cool style, I also admire George Bensons smooth style, and Christina Aguilera's passionate vocals, and I'm a big Robbie Williams fan - there is just something about him that is completely intoxicating.
What equipment do you use?
pardon? oh musical... just the usual. microphone, leads, stands etc.
Anything else?
I am a performer as well as a singer, so I love to dress up and really treat the crowd to a show. I feel the words to my songs deeply and express them in my body language and soulful vocals.
