Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
-From a recent interview with J Stakka- J Stakka: "Ok, a lil bout myself. Imma keep it shawt and simple. Im 24, originally from California but moved to Georgia as a child with my folks. I did finish high school and I got some college under my belt. Im currently studying in the marketing & promotions field. I did 3 years with ya boy uncle sam to get thru hard times and just to have something to fall back on while on the road to success. About my music: I live, breath, sleep and shit music ya'll. Not just rap but all genres because i'm multi-cultural. (Traveling around the world does that to a person) I started out back in 1997 rappin with a homeboy of mine in a group called "The Ruff Ones" and over the years moved on to other ventures, doing songs with "The Swamp Headz" of Fitz, Ga and later affiliating with the "Boogie Lab" which later turned into "Suicide Bribe" before leaving the sticks and moving to Texas when I was on the war tip. There I met numerous artists and groups that were at the point in their career where i wanted to be. So I affiliated myself with a group called "The Boom Squad" and did several shows in the Texas area. After moving from Texas, I got stationed over in Ft. Walton Beach, Fl between Panama City and Pensecola. During the 2 years I spent here I did my thang solo, traveling to Pensecola on a bi-weekly basis competeting in numerous freestyle battles with local rappers as well as established acts such as Lil Scrappy before he got big. He had just signed on with Lil John/ESBoys and BME. I wasn't doing any recording at this time in my career because either studio time was way too high or my work scheduale didn't permit time. After doing my stint with the USAF I moved back to Georgia and decided to hit the music game harder than ever. I was out of a job, broke and homeless for about a year before I got a break and started working small 9 to 5's to get by, buying small pieces of studio equipment when i could. After a year, I finally got a decent job in a carpet mill. This is where I met my partner and label mate, Tim Hollywood. We had heard each others music thru the streets and decided to collab and re-new the already in exsistence but idle Ben Hill Boys group which consisted of me, him, T Real, Jadakid, and female vocolist Brown Eyes. We invested all our money into building our studio from the ground up and proceeded to drop independent mixtape after mixtape creating a buzz in the area. Later down the road about a year later we started scouting talent for the Ben Hill Record label. Many came...many dropped because of our hectic recording scheduale and our personal demands on the artists. In 2006 I invited one of my old class mates and co-worker to the studio to get a visual on what it is we did. After freestyling on the mic Mr. Alkatraz wanted in. The vote was up and he met the criteria to be apart of the group. With his help, we distributed and sold over 2000 copies of our mixtapes in the community and surrounding area. Currently the BHB group consists of me, Tim Hollywood, Mr. Alkatraz(Atl, Ga), and T-Real(Honolulu, Hawaii). Together we've pushed many songs out and don't plan on stopping there. 2007-2008 spells radio play, more shows, mixtape exposure on premier DJ's mixtapes, and a collective BHB album which been long waited. My solo mixtape is ready and is in the works of national exposure with either Tim Hollywood's or Mr. Alkatraz's album up next (Slummed Out Ent backed-Atl). Now from me to you, on a real tip, I think i'm one of the most intellectual and cultured artists around but that's up to ya'll, the fan, to decide. Hit me up, leave a message or comment, listen to my tracks and comment on them. Your feedback helps me a lot. Aye mane, stay real and enjoy the rest of my page and until next time...this ya boy J Stak. Stacks on deck my nigga. "Respect money. Especially if you ain't neva had none!"
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
-From a recent interview with J Stakka- J Stakka: "Yeah I do my thang where eva there's people to listen. I do a lot ova in Valdosta. They show love. Got a couple of shows in Albany and Atlanta coming up. Dog I love doing shows cuz it's like you get to take all the stress you got from dealing with your regular life and music life combined and just get up there on stage and let it all out in yo performance."
Your musical influences
-From a recent interview with J Stakka- J Stakka: "Check, well I repect all the black history mongoules for fighting for speech right to give us the freedom to be able to do our music. Second, I repect all of hiphops forefathers for breaking our style of music into the public eyes not just the hoods around america. One of my main influences would have to be my man DMX. He always kept it relatable and let's see, one more...Method Man cuz he don't give a shit. He just keep it real."
What equipment do you use?
-From a recent interview with J Stakka- J Stakka: "Casio MD-1700 Keyboard, MPC1000 fa the bass lines and kicks & snares, a MCA Condeser microphone, a ART tube amp, and some JVC speakers hooked up to a JVC boombox paralleling my cpu via USB. Sometimes I use fruity loops to add spice to a beat and I record on Adobe Audition almost like Pro Tools."
