Hello to everyone visiting this page. My name is J.P. Masiongale and I am an aspiring singer/songwriter/musician. I truly hope that you enjoy the pieces that I have put up here and any feedback is welcome. Thanks for visiting.
Band/artist history
A native son of Pocahontas, J.P. Masiongale is one of the youngest and most talented guitarists in Northeastern Arkansas. Raised around music all his life, J.P. quickly began to yearn for the ability to play an instrument. Learning piano from his grandmother at age 7, this began his obsession with music. After learning to play drums on the side of his bed at age 12, he finally got his first real instrument, a full set of drums. After learning drums, J.P. realized that something just didn't seem right. He felt a void in his musical lifestyle and had the feeling that drums just were not for him. At age 14, J.P. got his first guitar, a Fender Squier Stratocaster. After learning to read tablature, J.P. was unstoppable. He wanted to learn everything and anything about guitar in as little time as possible. Feverishly practicing night and day for hours on end, J.P. began to hone his aggressive playing style to a fine art. Along the way he picked up the ability to play bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, dobro, keyboards, trumpet, euphonium, and harmonica. After several unsuccessful attempts with other bands, J.P. decided it was time to take charge of his musical career. He began to hone his vocal style down as well, fashioning it after such artists as: Travis Tritt, Brad Paisley, and Garth Brooks. He currently is a member of Shannon Bailey and The Empty Pockets Band, but also still does his own side projects, as time allows.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I do play live with the current band I am working with, Shannon Bailey and The Empty Pockets Band. 6 of the greatest people I've ever worked with, it's really gotten back to being fun to play music again, without all the drama, and to me that's what it's all about. I love to play in front of people, it really gives me a kick that no drug or alcohol could ever give. But I'm clean and sober anyways. I get too high on life and music to need anything else. I really don't have any special moments in particular, because for me, if I play for you and you listen to me and enjoy it, that is special enough. And that has been the case everyplace I have ever played at.
Your musical influences
My styings are very different than what you might expect. Musically, I began as a rock guitarist and speed plays a large role in much of my work. But along the way, I became interested in blues, Texas/SRV style, and so that has a large effect on my sound as well. I recently became overwhelmed with Brad Paisley's playing and that pretty well rounded out my sound. Vocally though, I've just always done what feels natural, if I want to do all kinds of acrobatics, I do, and if I want to keep is simple, I do that too. I tried several times to place myself in one kind of style for my voice, but there were just too many of them that I liked for me to pick just one. So I tried to roll them all into one style and there you have it.
What equipment do you use?
Way too much to mention, will post later
Anything else?
I would like to let everyone know that on the tracks that you hear on this page, I was covering all instrumental parts as well as all vocal parts, and did all the engineering, mixing, and mastering.
