If you want to make some games I got some programs you could use.
www.gamemaker.nl has gamemaker which you can use unregistered which has extra feature for registered users. Its only 18 dollars to register.
www.clickteam.com makes some good makers but I personally don't recommend it since I find their programs to be overpriced and not as powerful as gamemaker. So its a lose lose situation.
However if your wanting to make a roleplaying game than you could use Rpgmaker2000, 2003, or XP, XP being the most powerful. Just do a search on google for Rpgmaker XP and I'm sure you can find it in no time. However the only legal way of only this program in english is to buy it from www.himeyasoft.jp I think the site is and download Rpgadvocate's English patch at www.philomortis.com
If you know javascript you could use Sphere. Which is more power yet more complexed and complicated than any of the previous rpg makers. You must know javascript to use this maker. http://sphere.sourceforg
