Jonny Sootentai
Jonny Sootentai is an alliance of four vocally and poetically talented MCs and one musically gifted producer/DJ. Gumshoe the Friendly Neighbour; Phasma, Lingo, Lexington and Aptitude are the five components of the man they call, jonny.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Jonny has been in the making for close to a decade. This started on the playground.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Quite Often. Jonny always seems to find his way on stage.
Your musical influences
Influences range from Mos Def, to Wynton Marsalis, to the Doors and everything in between. Although hip-hop is the focus of Jonnys energy, they draw inspiration from a diverse variety of music. Our music reflects the complexity of classic jazz, the rhythms explored by funk, the powerful effects refined by psychedelic rock, and the intensity of modern electronica.
