John Gorman's playing career began as a joke. Having been given an acoustic guitar as a gift in Christmas of 2000, John Gorman put it to good use - by writing Adam Sandler-esque party songs while under heavily influence of drugs and alcohol. When John Gorman accidentally penned a semi-decent song that winter "As Long As We're Alive," the public demand for John Gorman to "go pro" forced him to find some real material. In 2001, he created a literal clusterfuck of material... rumoured to total over 75 songs. But before Johnny Gorman became a guitar-weilding missionary, he was a drummer for several bands, with a style that spills over into his guitar-playing technique. In 2001-2002, John Gorman shelved his singer-songwriter instincts and returned to the drumset to lay down beats for the unique emo-hardcore act Falling Into Pieces. It wasn't until during his later in 2002, when Gorman moved back to his birth-land of Buffalo, when he would begin to cultivate a collection of songs that would ultimately be praised by peers and fans as catchy and powerful. Admittedly a man with limited guitar skill (he slyly details that he sings each note as if it were his last "in order to drown out the guitar") Gorman relies heavily on the rhythmic textures of his playing and the overwhelmingly melodic voice to drive home the soul-searching prophecies of his lyrics. Gorman's first disc "Leave the Light On" was recorded for $100 and sounded like it... but the songs were incredibly well-written and laid the foundation for success to come. Still, Gorman was far from a public figure until summer 2003 arrived, as he finally played his first full-length show, and became a fixture on the Buffalo coffeehouse and bar circuits. The title track and other songs, notably "Ecstasy", "No Regrets", and "Sandcastles" helped define Gorman's signature sound, a blend of unabashed pop, late 60s soul, cocktail jazz, and mild rock, infused with hints of Latin and Hip-hop. John Gorman spent much of 2004 assembling a collection of bootlegs from his shows, creating the triple-disc "Bootleg." Word of his music and playful stage demeanor spread quickly throughout the northeast via the internet. Numerous breakthroughs occured in 2005, when he managed to create a cult following in Western New York while being tossed around on college radio across the country with his songs "No Regrets" and "Requiem for a Player (The Syrup Song.)" John Gorman released "Hold Me Back: A 16-Track Greatest Hits Demo Anthology" later that year as a swan song, but look for him to get back into the game in Summer 2007, with new tracks like "Finally Woken" and "The Grass Was Greener."Have you performed in front of an audience?No-one reads the answers to these questions.
