Your musical influences
I can't specifically say where my influence came from. To name a few, 70's motown, various R&B, Funk musicians, Jazz pianists Red Garland and Miles Davis... From Miles Davis, I've learned great deal of moderation and employing silence as a part of music.

-Colossus to cover GM sounds.
Other Plug ins
-Wave Diamond bundle. (So easy to use yet, so radical difference in your recording!)
External module:
Yamaha EX5 (Should be very cool machine with its physical modeling synthesis engine onboard. Got some killer sounds! Yet, it's not very user friendly, I gave up learning it and accumulating dirts in the corner.)
Microphone
-Rode NT1a Condenser Mic that my lovely Lynn got me for Christmas!!!

-Leave space. Give your music room to breath.
-Less is more.
