Joey Arata
This piece started with a simple finger-picked line using my BOSS SY-1000, and took off from there via synth sounds from Roland Cloud, Logic and Fantom-6. Tension and release, harmony and dissonance set the moods for this mercurial soundscape.
I wanted to create a jam my granddaughter might enjoy, as we're worlds apart on modern music. But as I composed, it became more of an esoteric soundscape beyond her tastes. I'll have to try again. But do listen for the echocardiogram starting at 1:52
Moonset/Sunrise on a lush alien world...a soundscape progressing through the daylight hours and ending with the subsequent Sunset/Moonrise.
Consciousness stirs, a mind is born, perception unfolds and discovers reality...
This piece took about four years to reach its final form. It started with two chords and an early sequencer. Then, I programmed the finished drum track out of thin air, put those two chords with it and the rest of the music appeared as if by magic!
Sour Mash is one of two jams I've composed using 3rd-party sample loops. When Acid software was introduced, Sonic Foundry sent me the full loop library. I decided to pick a loop from each disc and build a couple tunes. Somehow it worked...Sour Mash!
Big Feat is one of the two jams I've composed using 3rd-party sample loops. This piece was built from the Acid sample library and the initial rhythm was a beat loop played by Little Feat's late great drummer Richie Hayward...hence, Big Feat!
Recorded onstage at Sam & Shine's Lounge in Gulf Shores on a busy Saturday afternoon. My instruments were setup, my recorder and headphones were there...what else did I need? So I picked up my guitar and a few hours later it was Midnight In Nirvana!
A song of sadness, leaving, longing and hope.
