Your musical influences
One does not come across an enigma of an artist that often, as in the case of joe-f. This Scottish good natured firebrand was the seminal creative motor powering his former band incarnation of LifeForm 281.
Now joe-f has shed his previous muse & expanded into an ever deepening arc of musical expression This is not to discount such post punk modern aesthetics as "Shoot Through The Stars" with it's wall of guitar buzz-drone. This nod to the ever present past & its accompanying wail had left joe-f's heart in outer space & outer mind.
Nor can the raucous & penetratingly insightful wail of "Politicians (they're scum!)" fade off into the blustering anthem of airwaves; With it's all too close to home tirade satire of media manipulation ; It's intended victim that of the lemming mentality that perpetuates the fraud & corruption of the unsavory arena of politics. One must see the humor as not to cry. After all, the truth does sting at times.
In "Mama Ain't Coming Back No More" with it's Hammond organ punches & wry wink, joe-f has cast out his previous demo demons & carved a sonic niche path straight into a sly neon cosmic road replete with a darkly sublime story line.
The tune "Tell Me Now" has a be-bop-a-lula techno flare groove, that although understated on the surface, reveals some subterfuge brewing underneath. Never judge a book by its cover.
Then we come around to the dead pan social comment of "Mindless Entertainment". From it's opening flute synthesizers & clavinet, it is all too obvious that joe-f again is blithely painting the sound picture that if one is sharp enough to fathom, then one is again witness to the banal & vapid undertow that the media still attempts to perpetrate to those that are too dull to care otherwise.
joe-f exudes a world weariness that would confound others & turns it into a catharsis of sound & vision. The art world & music arena need more bold souls like joe-f who are willing to pierce the veil of the politically correct in the world of music & the world of life. This type of courage to experiment & confound whilst reinventing oneself shows the tenacity of a visionary person of iconoclastic dynamics.
