I've been doing my music thing seriously since about 2001. I record 2 full-length albums worth of material a year & countless random singles, remixes and mixtape tracks + side projects. I have three separate recording identities and I do a lot of collabs. I've played live all across the country. I'm always working on new shit, and honestly I don't know how I've stayed mostly under the radar. Probably just because I'm poor.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I've done a lot of shit, made a lot of music, been a lot of places, met a lot of people... I'll be damned if I'm gonna start typing it out right now, better wait for the book to come out. Or just hit up my bio & wiki link on sykophunk.com
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I've been a part of local scenes from NY to CA and they're all wack because too many underground artists think they're bigger than they ever will be. But just like any other job, sometimes you gotta deal with assholes. I still love playing shows, but I'm mostly a recording artist.
Your musical influences
I am inspired equally by underground hip hop, metal, gothic, and various forms of electronica. The list of artists that influence me is massive but Mike Patton is definitely number one. Bands & artists that suck inspire me too, to not be like them. To a true artist, everything in life is an influence.
What equipment do you use?
Anything I can get my hands on. I like working with live instruments but most of my music is made using computer programs & electronics. Fruity Loops is my beat-making program of choice. I'm stepping up my guitar game lately too.
Anything else?
I'm into writing as well, publishing poetry & fiction under my birth name, Joseph VanBuren. And I'm composing the score for an upcoming indie film. I'm all over the place... keep your Third Eye open and support the rEvolution Underground!
