TESTIMONY OF A JESUS JUNKIE
jes-us junk-ie: someone who is totally dependent upon Jesus
I, John Johnson III, was born December 13, 1973 in Akron, Ohio. My parents divorced when I was 5 and I was left without a good male rolemodel at home. My Mother got married two more times, but I never got along with her husbands. Because of this my mother was left to raise me alone.I became a christian at the age of 7. My church had become my extended family. With Jesus as my guide, the help of my family, my mom and the church, I was taught the difference between wrong and right and how to be a man. Most of my life I have been what most people would call a "goody goody." I chose not to drink, smoke, or do drugs. Most of the time I kept to myself, I didn't even go to parties where I could be tempted. At times people wondered if I could even talk. At age 15 I felt like God was putting a call on my life.I felt like he was directing me to go into youth ministry, but at the time, I did not realize what God had really had in store for me.
In the summer of 1996, I was very disappointed in myself. I felt like a failure and was ready to give up on God and the life for which I was called. Then late one night I got down on my knees and said, "Lord, if you want me to get right with you, then make it clear to me exactly what you want me to do!" Later that night while I was singing some worship songs, I began to rap my praises to the Lord. That is when it hit me. The Lord wanted me to use rap music and my experiences to reach the hurting people of this world.
