Jive-O-Matic

Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Jive-O-Matic dropped on to the scene in the fall of 2003, assembling its players from the outskirts of Boston and New York City. These studio and session players yearning to lead and carry music instead of backing and supporting other musicians, broke out of the comfort zone they had all been in for years. The blending of their musical visions along with the incorporation of a variety of styles, constructs a sound that spans over the genres while paying homage to each influence they are derived from. The base of this “Methodically Funky Groove Pop” outfit is shared by the foundation team made up of the bassist and the drummer. Both coming from diverse backgrounds spanning the sound horizon, they come together to form a solid rhythm section that allows the feel to simmer and flow in the rhythmic sense, while still adding and complementing the harmony and the melody of the songs. The keyboardist brings soulful patches of color and intensity to the music while enforcing the time, groove and feel to design a presence that can be overpowering at one moment, while at another, so soft that it is only felt but not heard. The guitarist/vocalist’s percussive guitar style and soulful vocal phrasing, supplements the sound and drives the groove. The combination of these seasoned musicians, their technical abilities and their approach to the development of their music over a broad range of styles and influences, makes Jive-O-Matic a fresh but familiar sound to its fans and new listeners alike. The band recently signed to Protect-O-Matic Music Inc. because of its similar vision and approach to music and kids. “This band has made it very clear that they are about the music and the kids just as we at Protect-O-Matic are”, states Loren Weisman, CEO of Protect-O-Matic Music Inc., a new music management and consulting group. Weisman goes on to say, “This group wants not only to perform and build a following, they also want to spend time traveling to schools to do music clinics for kids and they are giving 50% of their profits from their first disc sales and downloads back to schools and music programs for children. We see the relationship between Protect-O-Matic and Jive-O-Matic as a great, if not coincidental, fit”. Kurt Hilborn, also of Protect-O-Matic Music Inc. goes on to say, “This band, its music, its approach and vision represent the best of what we believe in at Protect-O-Matic, and we look forward to helping them offer it to the country and the world. We are working strongly to develop them in a different and new style that will reset the bar on how bands can gain exposure and build followings." With their unique but familiar sound that mixes influences such as The Black Crowes, Prince, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, and Motown. Jive-O-Matic blends solid grooves with a variety of styles that pulls you in and grabs hold.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are going to start playing live in April. We are taking a different approach to bringing the band out to the public. We want to come out hard and strong. So we will limit shows till then and then tour the spring, summer and fall.
