pretty girl pretty girl
sometimes you don't see yourself the way others see you... and sometimes even the prettiest angels feel sad on the inside. I wrote this song about my sister.
both sides both sides
Everybody has layers... different sides that make up who they are. It's not always easy to face some of those places but when you do that's when you realize the true beauty of being yourself
Kiss the Angles Kiss the Angles
This is about letting someone go in the most selfless way.. setting them free to a place where they wont be in pain anymore but knowing that means letting go forever.
what it's like (to be you) what it's like (to be you)
The man I used to call my hero was the first man to break my heart.
jenny matthews....Tender, edgy and always melodic, Jenny delivers it all from stunning lyrics to yummy melodies and a voice that will melt your heart.Band/artist history
I have been actively singing and writing since, well, forever it feels like. To me, writing is the most important thing. It's an extension of myself. Sometimes, it feels like this warm blanket that wraps around me from the inside out. It's where I find the freedom to hold on or let go as much as I want. My mother inspired me to become a writer. She captivates me. It's like her words seem to just jump right off the page and into my soul. I began writing poetry at the age of ten and later I started exploring the world of songwriting and tweeking some of my poems into lyrics. Poems and lyrics can be two different worlds but every once in a while those worlds merge and something magical happens... without poetry, I think alot would be lost in a song.
I usually tend to write based on personal experience like most writers I guess...but sometimes it can be something as simple as the look on a stranger's face that inspires a lyric or even a melody. The lyrics come to me first and then the melody... not sure why but it's just always been that way for me. I wouldn't say that I write the happiest songs in the world so if you're looking for Disney you wont find it here. lol Most of my songs are either based on loss or the possibility of it..and dealing with it. BUt I suppose that's life! For the most part, there's always some hidden sarcasm in the angst driven tunes..which is pretty true to who I am. I think a dash of sarcasm is necessary in life... for me,it makes the suckier parts of life easier to swallow. And then there are the softer songs like kiss the angels where I think the most honest thing to do is to just pour out your heart and soul and people seem to respond to that honesty, which creates an amazing bond. I think, as a songwriter, a vital part of the creative process is allowing myself to be volnerable. It's the pieces of ourselves that we keep tucked away inside that become more beautiful when we set them free.
My grandfather inspired me to become a singer. He had an amazing voice and spirit; he sang to me all the time. I remember when I was a little girl, we used to record ourselves singing together on these skinny little mircrophones in his living room. I remember how much fun we used to have when we'd listen back to ourselves. It was then that I knew this is what I wanted to do someday.
I started off doing backgrounds for other local artists, collaborative projects and playing at local venues when I was about nineteen. I knew early on what my sound was and I'm grateful for that. For me it's really about feeling a connection to the music no matter what I'm listening to. Growing up I loved Richard Marx and Andy Gibb! What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good love song. They just don't make em like they used to. Great production and writing.I also liked the Dooby Brothers, John Denver, Dan Folgeberg just to name a few. Now i am very into the country artists. The new country is awesome, all these amazing voices with lot's of feel and the production far surpasses what's happening in the pop world today. I hope to work with some of these artists someday. My absolute favorite is Keith Urban. He's amazing! Talk about a great voice and those melodies are down right infectious!
Chemistry is everything when I'm writing music, that and a great melody.lol I feel very fortunate to have found Steve Daehnert. In addition to being a gifted drummer/percussionist, Steve is also an outstanding Co-producer and a big part of our sound. Coming from a diverse background of heavy metal, pop, jazz and funk... Steve's feel, sensitivity and timing are unmatched. (and he's pretty easy on the eyes too):) I can honestly say, that I have never felt more at home with my music as I do now. Did I mention, he's a pretty wonderful fiance too?? Yep.. we'll be making more than music!! I am very blessed.
In July 2002 we performed on the MARK AND BRIAN RADIO SHOW.."KLOS" and also played at the HOUSE OF BLUES in Anaheim. I think I was more excited to meet Mark and Brian than I was to be on the radio. It was a sureal experience I will cherish always.
Being able to share my music and know that it has moved or comforted someone else means everything to me. Thank you all for your kind reviews and emails. Take care!Have you performed in front of an audience? My favorite memory thus far would have to be when
we performed on the Mark and Brian Radio Show
during their "unsigned artist series" It was a sureal moment I will cherish always. Those guys
were a BLAST!
Your musical influences
Anyone with feel and a great melody. Growing up I loved The Dooby Brothers, Richard Marx, Dan Folgelberg, Bee Gees. I know I am supposed to say the Beetles.. and tho I can appreciate the profound impact they had on the music world, they just aren't my cup of tea. Some people wince at that...but I guess I've always been more of a coffee drinker. lolWhat equipment do you use?
pro-tools but I perfer the sound of analog..
it's so warm.Anything else?
This goes out to all my fellow unsigned artists..
don't sacrafice your soul or become a sell-out
for anyone... it's not worth it. Anyone who asks you to make that compromise isn't playing for your team. Always be true to yourself and patient until the right deal comes along. And have fun cuz that's what it's about. :) You'll thank yourself later.

Jenny, I simply love your voice and your songs, they and you are awesome
Very Very nice. Like your emphasis on lyric-driven pop. Me too. Wonderful, honest sound. Straight-forward, no pretention. Don't let a producer try to make more of it than it is, we'll miss the song. Lots of luck.
You are very talented.
Great voice,great guitar work.
I'll be back to check out more of
your stuff.
Your sister is blessed to have a sister as wise and loving as you. You are a beautiful singer/songwriter. I will pray for your sister. May God bless both of you.
Love and Peace,
