Jenny Choi

JENNY CHOI AND THE THIRD SHIFT! We have a new name now. And a brand new CD, called "Grand and Ashland". Check out some of the songs off of the new album, available for download here.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Jenny has been writing and playing out since she was about 15. She got together with Mike on guitar in '97. They got together a big fat band of 11 (with strings and backup singers) in '98. A typical Jenny Choi show is played with Jenny, Mike, Philip Stone on drums, and Tony Aronica on bass. Tony joined us in '00, replacing sound guru Jimmie Myers. The big band (the Polykromatic Ensemble) comes out maybe twice a year...
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We've been playing around Chicago consistently for about a year and a half. In Champaign-Urbana, we were playing around one or two shows each weekend for a couple semesters... Jenny lets her voice go when we play live, and that always makes for a 'moment'...
Your musical influences
Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Chicago, Marvin Gaye, Ani DiFranco, Dillinger Four... piano-based, r, pop-punk-y, etc.
Anything else?
We are proud to announce that we are currently the most incredible rock band in the universe.
