Jenn Vix
Providence, R.I. native Jenn Vix spent much of her early years in New York City before settling back in her home state to pursue a career in music. After a handful of attempts, one of which yielded her first demo tape, the singer finally connected with a guitarist and released her self-titled debut album on Umbrella Dimension Records in 1995. Without the funds to aggressively promote her new release, Vix caught a huge break when her album was reviewed in Rolling Stone magazine. By late 1997, Vix had begun to record her second album, Hope Springs Nocturnal, which was released in early 1999.
Her latest release "3", has received rave reviews, including a 5 star review in Gothic Beauty magazine.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
To put it simply, I've been doing this for a while.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, all over the place, I love it. I once played a gig at CBGB in NYC alone.
Your musical influences
The Cure, Depeche Mode, Banshees, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Bowie, Wire, Nico, Joy Division, New Order, The Associates.
What equipment do you use?
I do not sample anyone else's stuff. I play everything myself (and I don't use sequencers for everything.) I use a plethora of different things, as well as virtual boards. I am a fan of older boards, (such as the Korg M1 and Roland Juno 106.) My favorite pieces of equipment are the Roland JV1080, and the Ensoniq ASR10.
I have just recorded my first all digital album. Until this year, I have worked in 24 track - analog.
Anything else?
I also play real bass, drums, electronic drums, and a bit of guitar. I like to use bass and guitar on songs, even when they are synth based. I feel that guitar is important.
