JelAni, not your average 16 year-old first got his introduction to the entertainment industry through dance. After studying extensive ballet, modern, and jazz for three years, he moved on. Having acquired the basic theories of music and principles of Jazz (from playin the clarinet), JelAni decided to start making his own music. Coincidentally he had been writing poems since he was 10, and over the years his skills, wordplay, and metaphors became one of his most distinctive qualities in his poetry. After being inspired by a Lauryn Hill DVD (Unplugged), JelAni picked up the guitar, only fooling around with it, but eventually put it down - that was in 2003. One year later, 136 poems later, and an unsuspected turn into music, JelAni is slowly establishing himself as a musician, artist, poet, and dancer.Have you performed in front of an audience?"I've never done any live performances, maybe because I am too scared or too shy, or I cannot play all of the instruments at the same time live, but mos def I will be doing one next year."
