Jamison is an R&B/Funk Rock band founded in and around the thriving Metro-Detroit and Ypsi-Arbor music scenes in the fall of 2004. This diverse five-piece penetrates your soul with unyielding tight rhythms and searing vocal melodies. Performing in the moment, for Jamison, is all about letting go of their inhibitions and allowing the artistic chemistry that binds them to work its course. Jamison’s musical influences and diverse backgrounds emerge in their sound and become evident with inspirations ranging from Stevie Wonder to the modern blues-rock sounds of Ben Harper and the North Mississippi All-Stars.
The timing couldn’t have been better when it came to the forming of Jamison. Each of the band’s members, experienced musicians in their own right, had been searching for a strong group of musicians with which to collaborate. Fortunately in the summer of 2004, the atmosphere was right and the pull of fate brought the five of them together.
Collectively the five musicians have performed at more than 150 Metro-Detroit and Ypsi-Arbor venues during their careers, including the Magic Bag (Ferndale), The Music Menu (Greektown), Lager House (Detroit), New Way Bar (Ferndale), Blind Pig (Ann Arbor), Berkeley Front (Berkeley), Attic Bar (Hamtramck), T.C.’s Speakeasy (Ypsilanti), and Robusto’s (Grosse Pointe). These are just some of the experiences, along with living in Metro-Detroit, that help the band keep a finger on the pulse of the rising Detroit and Ypsi-Arbor music scene.
When the band takes to the stage, all of their differences meld together and up rises a unifying musical whirlwind that draws in any casual bystander. Witnessing a Jamison performance is more than just a musical experience where people can expect to “get their groove on”. A Jamison performance is an event that brings people together under the truth that it is not their differences that matter, but their similarities as human beings that are important.
