INTRODUCING.......THE JAMES MANNICK BAND! featuring the Manic Expressions. We are a Long Beach,CA based band specializing in jazz, standards, popular and ORIGINAL MUSIC!
Band/artist history
The band is the brainchild of James Mannick the leader and creative force. He is a persona created to protect the authentic self and give birth to a huge ego and uninhibited talent. Influenced by great stage and recording performers like Bette Midler and the Harlettes, Fleetwood Mac, Santana, the Eagles and the Doobie Brothers. It's all about creating a larger than life image and backing it up with some great music.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Mostly Long Beach. We have recently been on a break due to our lead singer's throat surgery. Ouch big set back! Our past credits include the 555 East, the Sky Room on the top floor of the Breakers Hotel, Mr Stox,Anaheim, Ca and the Long Beach Convention Center just to mention a few.
Your musical influences
Carole King inspired the songwriting in this band initially. Later Bette Midler, Babra Striesand,Barry Manilow, David Bowie, the Doobies, Jazz and Musicals, Stephen Schwartz(Godspell). I grew up as a musical sponge absorbing the best of whatever I could wrap my ears around! My musical taste is quite diversified.
What equipment do you use?
I am a purist. I love real instruments and well rehearsed voices. Lots of production...Give me horns, strings and harmonies backed up by a groovy, tight rhythmn section...Yum,yum!
Anything else?
The truth is that we are a mature band. Most of the members are well into their forties, but thanks to new venues such as this , youth is no longer a prerequisite of creativity, dreaming or the possability of fame...Remember Peter Pan and the great song standard "Young at Heart". It's never too late!
