Jahranimo
Born in Montego Bay Jamaica, started singing in 1981. Growing up with his beloved grandmother in Maroon Town, he frequently was the cause of much stress by staying out late at local dances. This was where a Rastaman in the District supplied the sound system for Jahranimo to begin practicing and experimenting with. Eventually his loving grandmother gave into her worries and sent him back to the city to live with his mother. A blessing in disguise, the new neighbourhood introduced Jahranimo to an elder that would soon become his best friend; Tony Crab became a good influence on Jahranimo's career. His mentors were and still are Bob Marley and Super Cat.
In 1988, the biggest show down between Sound Systems ( Ticka Music and Pieces Sound) got a preview performance of an artist destined for greatness. Back then his stage name was Apache. Young Lion Jahranimo won the audience's love and a trophy for best entertainer. In Savanna-La-Mar, he met the late Chino man, who introduced him to Leng, Specialist and Banky, the former managers of Shaba Ranks. This led to an opportunity to be part of some of the biggest shows in Jamaica such as, Sting, Hot Shot, Border Clash and many others. In 1991, Jahranimo performed the most emotional set of his career, his farewell show. Ready to move to Canada and begin a new chapter in his life, he spent his last night sharing a show with the people of his homeland; Buju Banton and many other artists.
Taking a break from music in 1997 compelled him to surround himself with true Rastafarians and again recognised his real identity, " a Rasta man". Giving all praise to the most high, "Life must get Betta" and it did.....2001 saw his return to the stage, and 2002, a CD release called "In Jamaica" including artists such as , Kirk Davis, Beenie man and many more. At that time he did his first music video for "In Jamaica". He opened for artists such as Half Pint, Tantro Metro and Devonte, Mighty Diamonds. And also performed live on the Breakfast TV Show in Vancouver and Alberta with George Nooks. He recently received the George Barrett Reggae Music Appreciation Award for his contribution to Reggae Music.
All this has been the build up for one day; September 3, 2004 will begin the year of Jahranimo! His debut solo CD, " Real Life" is top to bottom one of the best reggae dance hall albums you will ever hear! It features guest appearances by Zukie Joseph, Kirk Davis, Zade, JT420,Bones,Illucid, Whiteplains, Xxxplicit, Dlux, Lil’ Precious and D'Luscious...Yes this one is so real.... so sit back and digest it.
