Jah Connery

I started recording for real in '02. A friend of mine knew what I was doing with hip hop, and thought it would be worth buying me a shitty mic and hand-me-down mixer. I don't know that it was back then, but I got some cats together and had a good time. I started Innermitten Music back then with my boy . Soon enough we added to the roster. We did some shows, some big some small, cats dug us. I also started 101 in about '03/'04 which included myself, , Probmatic and . We all had a good run together and after a few years turned away to focus on our own lives, endeavors and crafts. In '08 I joined up with to form . I still record and produce solo joints for your enjoyment. You can pick up my first album Escape Velocity, or just wait til the next joints come out over the course of the fall/winter release season.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Already did that shit.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I'm mostly doing shows with Smash Television currently, but will branch out with my solo shit soon. My favorite spots to rock are The Berkley Front, Division Gallery, Art 634 in Jackson, Northern Lights (for Recession Sessions) and wherever those We Are Change cats are rockin.
Your musical influences
For real, I love hip hop, but I love alot more than hip hop. I'm generally with what is hot in hip hop and have always loved that early 90's sound, that "Feel Me Flow" by Naughty By Nature, "Crossover" by EPMD, "Everyday Struggles" by Biggie, "T.R.O.Y." by Pete Rock and CL Smooth shit. But alot has happened in my life musically. I have always loved Hot Water Music, and have a soft spot for that late 90's melodic hardcore sound. My father raised me on Tom Waits and David Byrne, and I love that shit to death. My mom had me on that Motown sound though, and I've retained that as well. Jazz. Funk. House. Techno. Dub. Hip Hop. Hardcore. Metal. Indie Rock. I love all this shit. Music is about experiencing the past and future in the present, and anyone who can give me a new idea, or refine an old one is a friend of mine.
What equipment do you use?
I've been told by a friend to keep that under my hat. I'm just good at working with my shit. I don't have a special hard on for the techy shit, so other cats can have their fun.
Anything else?
