jacqueline rendell
at heart, i am a 4 track girl, and have been writing, performing, and recording my own music for ten years, with my guitar and voice. now i record on my digital 8 and have expanded my repertoire of instruments to include piano, percussion, clarinet, and sounds, in general. a lot of what i do is experimental and improvisational. i just go with the flow...i love to play
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
A musical Jacq of all trades
Jacqueline has been writing and recording her original material for a decade.
As a singer-songwriter devoted to wearing her insides out
she has cultivated a charismatic stage presence that draws an audience in.
Jacqueline has had the great fortune of performing with such artists as
the Wild Strawberries, Crash Vegas and Jewel ,
as well as performing in Toronto's Canadian Music Week
As a self-taught producer/engineer
Jacqueline has released three full-length albums, increasingly experimental in nature.
Drawing from the elements of pop, folk and ambient,
she creates a fusion of effected organic sounds with guitar-based songs
to form conscious lyrical pieces and ethereal soundscapes.
Reaching beyond the strings of her acoustic guitar,
Jacqueline incorporates piano, clarinet, violin, trumpet
layered lush vocals with real-time beats,
creating music that recalls the sound and mood of 4AD records .
Think Cocteau Twins, Lisa Germano, His Name Is Alive , Dead Can Dance...
At home in toronto
Jacqueline strives to evolve her distinctive approach to recording
while opening herself up to the possibilities that collaborative efforts bring forth.
For the first time ever, Jacqueline has acquired piano and guitar accompaniment for her live shows
which add both colour and richness to her already complex sound.
She continues to devote herself to assuming her role as a musical story-teller;
to being a troubador who seeks to reveal the wounds we all share
and to then help heal them.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
i play as often as possible in and around toronto...just started playing with supporting musicians, who happen to be kindred souls....we are loving the music we're making and look for any opportunity to share it with people.
Your musical influences
anything on 4AD, cocteau twins, red house painters, this mortal coil, plus radiohead, jeff buckley, tori amos, john zorn and crazy improv noise music
What equipment do you use?
zoom digital 8-track and lots of effects toys, various instruments and housewars items.
Anything else?
i just want to create honest and beautiful music...which doesn't mean it's always pretty
