Jack Is Back

Hoochie Hand Grenade Hoochie Hand Grenade
The first song we ever set about learning. It was completed within a few weeks and would have been done much quicker if we had actually known each other properly! We stuck to the original structure and improvised all our parts.

He Doesn't Know Any Better He Doesn't Know Any Better
One of our live favourites, and probably our favourite to play. It was a real band effort with everybody contributing ideas and we built the song up by building up the intro and verses, splitting the chorus in two and crafting a neat outro.

Whiskey & Gin Whiskey & Gin
Another song that came pretty thick and fast. Lukasz came up with a catchy lead guitar line and Sebastian and Will gave the song a powerful rhythm.

It's Up To Me It's Up To Me
This song was musically complete in January 2004 but it lacked vocals and was finished off in time for the Cafe Kreuzberg gig in May 2004. Undoubtedly Lukasz's best contribution to Jack Is Back!

Spinning All Around Spinning All Around
This tune was completed in early 2004 and was given lyrics in May. It was a hard old slog getting the song together but once it was finished it was a pleasure to play. Sebastian added a demon bass line and Lukasz had a good wank on the guitar!

Should I Wake Up? Should I Wake Up?
After bouncing it around for a bit, we finally completed Should I Wake Up? in time for the Cafe Kreuzberg gig. Being a fast-paced song, Lukasz and Ryan added alot of crazy guitar parts while Sebastian and Will somehow managed to get a groove going.

Rose Rose
We spent alot of time getting this song nailed down due to the irregular structure. We had a good laugh with the solos and always enjoyed stretching the song out to about eight minutes by doing the band introduction!

Maybe Maybe
The final song we completed. The bare bones were laid down back in early 2004 but we didn't fully finish it until a week before the Norgelbuff gig in June. A nice little tune musically, with Sebastian adding some great violin parts.

Now I Have To Leave This World Now I Have To Leave This World
Probably our greatest musical triumph! We built up the intro, sorted out the choruses, inserted a middle-eight and finished it off with a crazy ending where the tempo practically doubles.

Rock 'N' Roll Rock 'N' Roll
Like Hoochie Hand Grenade before it, a song that was completed fairly quickly. Most of the time we spent on the song was working out and getting used to the irregular six-beat burst of guitar that makes up the chorus. Good tune!

Old No. 7 Old No. 7
After completing Hoochie we started to experiment a bit more, and ended up changing alot of things with this song. We inserted a breaks after the first two choruses, used multiple rhythms and created an entirely new intro.

Jammin' Blues Jammin' Blues
A jam that evolved into a fully structured song. Everyone had a go at soloing and Ryan brought out the mandolin. The song took on a whole new dimension when we recorded it, with Ryan, Lukasz and Sebastian all laying down solos.
