Ivan Murillo
From trash/metal to rock/metal to blues to classical/world music. I have taken each aspect and try to mix it to something new.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I was self tought at the age of 14 years old. I started up in a Thrash/Metal band "Anesthesia" (1986-1990). During these years, my mentors were Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Cliff Burton and Billy Sheehan. I had joined the military and played with a couple of bands until I joined with"Sabbath Knights (1992-1994). There I focused on the works of Geezer Butler. During these years I also did my first ever professional recording with the band. After a couple of years, I got transfered and headed back to Texas. There was not much of rock scene at my new home...so I joined a Blues band ,"Soul Shake" (1995-1996). While playing blues, I started to play out pretty frequently. I enjoyed working on blues riff and everything started to make sense---almost everything is derived from the blues riff. After a break-up, I sat around for awhile and then got into the world music scene, "With Anchovies" (1998-2000). Here I learned to appreciate other instruments and learned more on how to harmonize the bass. Since then, I have recorded some pieces that come from the variety of music styles I had played.
