iordache
"iordache" is a free/fusion jazz group, trying to bridge the gap between bona fide free jazz and the contemporary sounds and grooves.it is a saxophone/guitar/double bass/drums quartet,to which we've added Tom Smith,a wonderful American trombonist, for our first cd called "friday".Our second cd, "dissipatin'" was released earlier this year. It is louder - two electric guitars! - and with a lot more electronics than the first one
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
we all have our own personal stories as far as the music is concerned, but the band itself is still quite new so it hasn't much of a history
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
we usually play in jazz clubs, but once in a while we get invited to festivals.all of us have played abroad (France,Germany,Hungary,Great Britain)but with different bands.Bass player Vlaicu Golcea played last year at Montreux Jazz Festival, with a band called Electric Brother. This year I played at the Porgy and Bess Jazz Club in Vienna with pianist Harry Tavitian and in Brussels with guiarist Eugene Chadbourne's trio and bassist Vlaicu Golcea
Your musical influences
We really like all jazz,so it's hard to say.I am very fond of Sun Ra, Charles Mingus and Carla Bley as bandleaders, but I don't try to make the band sound like any known band
What equipment do you use?
the guitar player uses a Roland VG8 processor and I think of buying a Korg Electribe drum machine to use along the real drums
