R&B Funk
February 22, 2000
Indofunk dishes up Indian classical and hip-hop (bhangra) music in a heavy sauce of American funk beats to create a unique and powerful flavor of music. Your tastebuds (and feet!) won't stop dancing to the ass-bumpin' grooves, and yet there is a heady aroma of complex Indian harmonies and odd meters. Delicious!
Band/artist history
Founded in late 1999 in a basement studio with four burning tracks, Indofunk is now in early 2000 working hard to skyrocket itself into the public eye! If you think Indofunk is deserving of some noteriety, send your comments to satish100@hotmail.com. Advice is appreciated - it's all about people helping people getting music that deserves to be heard!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
It's a new band, so we've done a few gigs at a couple of spots, presently at the Izzy Bar in the East Village. It's always better live - mo' dancin, mo' groovin.
Your musical influences
Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Sly Stone, P-Funk, too many others to list. Basically, anything that's got a groove, plus some Indian stuff, like classical guys (Ravi Shankar, Ustaad Ali Akbar Khan...), non-classical (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), pop (Bally Sagoo, DJ Cheb-i-Sabbah), and a little world spice thrown in for flayva...
What equipment do you use?
Other than standard bass & keyboard equipment, I use effects on my trumpet when I play live - Alesis Midiverb for general reverb, chorus, flange, & EQ, then the headrush for dealy & loops, and a Wah. More to be added soon!
