Ifthekar Hussain
Name's Ifthekar, friends call me ifti.
I am from Bangladesh, now residing at Buffalo, NY.
Never took singing seriously, until recently.
Used to hum a tune or two since childhood but started playing "Bashi" when I was at highschool for A-Levels.
Recently started performing live with other musicians and people seem to like my songs. Wrote a couple of songs and recorded them at my home studio.
I must mention the names of Kamran(K-Hash), Joy, for their contribution to my tracks.
I like singing in different languages, tunes from different cultures fascinate me. Recently i've sang "Aicha" as a collaboration effort under the banner of "BANGLA AVENUE" with some very talented musicians, Joy, Gautam, Kamran and Devika.
I added some bengali lyrics to the original song in my own words. Joy and Gautam contributed with rhythm programming and synthesizers. Devika sang as the female vocalist and Kamran Rapped some verses.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Joy a synthesizer whiz, enriched many of the songs written by Ifthekar and performed live as a member of the Band at many live performances. Kamran Hashimi, a talented young rapper has the unparallel ability to rhyme verses impromptu about absolutely anything at all.
Bangla Avenue won the first prize on Muqabala 2002 and second prize on Muqabala 2003. Muqabala is an intercollegiate Indian subcontinental cultural competition organized annually by the University at Buffalo. The band performs mostly on cultural occassions including Bengali new years day, Arab Nights, Persian Noruz and many more.
