Jacqueline Jacqueline

Yes, it was in pretty dubious taste ...but once the idea grabbed us, we just had to go with it

Roger's ode to sleep and the soft down sometimes covering newly born babies. Flanged guitar and Dr Rhythm, shopping trolley and metal-plates played with a hammer. Paul id's daughter guests on backing vocals.

Inspired by The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel, this cut-up and paste of various live recordings at different venues (including one where the power was cut forcing us to perform our set acapella) features Roger on echo-decks

Recorded live at The West Indian Club, Southampton. Marvel at Roger's Franglaise lyrics and Paul id muffing his simple one-finger keyboard solo.

Two live recordings from unidentified venues aptly demonstrating why we sometimes termed our music, 'Cottage Industrial'

'idid idid' over 30 years on from a bygone era of 'cassette culture' and lo-fi electronics, Southampton's finest prepared tape collage/synth/bontempi organ/shopping-trolley band present a few rough and ready recordings of more psychotic noise from the archives.... and everybody knows that noise annoys A collection of cassette artwork, posters, photographs, etc, charting obscurist idid idid band history can be found here:
Band/artist history
idid idid was formed in Eastleigh around 1979. The early recordings comprised endless hours of meandering sessions using anything at hand from reel-to-reel tape loops to clarinets and baby alarm feedback. They also ventured out onto the streets to tape raw material (overheard conversations, the squeaky door at Virgin Records) and invited others to send us their material which they then incorporated into our recordings. At some point Roger id got hold of a list of addresses of people all over the country who seemed to be selling or exchanging D.I.Y. cassette tapes of their own music. Also, as Paul id was in mail-art correspondence with Genesis P Orridge at the time he was forming his 'psycho-rock' band (note, not 'Industrial') called 'Throbbing Gristle' we began receiving copies of his 'Industrial News' newsletter containing more contacts and started contributing idid idid material to cassette compilations, odd radio shows and mail-art audio projects (like Rod Summers' VEC Audio Editions in Holland) The first idid idid' cassette releases mostly comprised of session recordings edited down to a master cassette using the razor-blade technique then copies run off through an adapted music-centre. The cassettes were named according to a bunch of numbered tickets Roger id found left in a hotel function room (72x108, 90x90). These tickets were added to bits of pasted up photocopy, stickers, and various bits-and-bobs then sealed with the cassette in a plastic bag. We thought it looked very spiffy and at a selling price was 99p - or exchange for a blank C60 cassette - it was a bargain. After a few years idid idid decided to take this make-it-up-as-you-go-along approach playing live to much heckling and shouts of 'Faust!'. They stuck with it acquiring better gear and a growing collection of shopping trollies and played the Southampton area to ambivalent audiences for the next few years. This culminated in the cassette release album of the part studio/part Fostex/part live recorded 'Love Theme from Jacqueline' through local label, Stick It In Your Ear Tapes. Much to the irritation of Geoff Wall of S.I.I.Y.E. (a label that promoted live local bands) idid idid then promptly disbanded. After a short interim period during which idid idid acquired guitarist, Ross Criddle and transmorphed into a 'punk/punk covers' band, Paul id left as bass synth player, replaced by Ian Criddle on bass guitar and the band changed their name to The KridsZ Roger id went on to front and record with the magnificently Beefheartian The First Men In Space and currently does whatever he damn well likes. Scott id went on to play and record as drummer and percussionist in a number of bands including Flik Spatula and La Cucina and currently works in photography. Paul id recorded a solo cassette album for S.I.I.Y.E. tapes, Music for BBC2 Documentaries under the name Brian Aspro (which recently resurfaced on the internet thanks to Mutant Sounds blog) and went on to play with the very brief lived Groping for God and even briefer lived Sigue Sigue Wham! and The Dead Boy Georges(a single live set) before retiring from music altogether to concentrate on illustration and graphics. He currently records under the name The Beatless or Paul Beatless and his recent recordings can be found at http://www.soundclick.com/thebeatless
