Greta Gaines - It Was Hot
IDC Cat #0018 / RED22001
Greta Gaines became the first Women’s Extreme Snowboard Champion in Valdez, Alaska in 1992. Her singing career
started that same year in Jackson Hole, Wyoming playing to drunken cowboys, locals and lonely dog mushers. Her 2
passions, music and snowboarding, collided in Austin, TX, at the first MTV Sports and Music Festival where she co-hosted
the men’s and women’s Big Air Snowboard Competition with MTV VJ, Kennedy and Wu Tang Clan’s, Method Man. Her song,
"Mikey Likes It" was played throughout the broadcast. reta hosted "FREERIDE with Greta Gaines", a half-hour show
dedicated to lifestyle, music, extreme sports and the environment, for the Oxygen network. Her recorded music and live
performances were also featured on the network. For FREERIDE, Greta hosted and produced shows including fly-fishing
with Ethan Hawke and tracking grizzlies with Sheryl Crow. At Farm Aid, she recently sat in with Willie Nelson, David Crosby
and Neil Young. She sang a stunning rendition of "Pink Houses" with John Mellencamp at the event that was broadcast on CMT.
Greta was featured recently fly-fishing with her father on the Outdoor Life Network show, "Sports Afield: On Assignment" and
on the VH1 rock game show, Nevermind the Buzzcocks."
Greta is a songwriter’s songwriter, which is why she was asked on the Lilith Fair to sing with Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan
during their shows and why she was personally chosen by Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos through MP3.com to open the first
5 dates of their 5 1/2 weeks tour. The internet has proven a viable way for Greta to showcase and sell her music. Out of more
than 100,000 songs at MP3.com hers have stayed at number one in her genre and in the top 40 over all, since they were first
posted there 2 years ago. Since then her site gretagaines.com has had a half a million hits. While on tour with the Goo Goo Dolls,
Greta was one of the select artists filmed and recorded for the MP3.com "Virtual Tour" broadcast and included on their tour album
and cd rom.
Greta has appeared in countless newspapers and magazines including Harper’s Bazaar, USA Today and Women’s Sports and
Fitness, Sports Illustrated For Women, Jane and US Weekly. Features about Greta of special note, are the September 22, 1999
New York Times article on the Internet and music and the October '99 and March 2002 issues of Sports Afield Magazine. Greta has
acted in the Allison Kraus video, "Forget About It," and in the feature film, "One Night Stand" directed by Mike Figgis ("Leaving Las
Vegas"). Her music can be heard in this film as well as in the films, "Angela," "Day at the Beach," "Virgil Bliss," and "Rustin." She
plays the "Crackhead Snowhite" in the upcoming urban series called "Ghetto Fabulous." She recently landed two more songs on
movie soundtracks. "Forget" has been placed in the film"Topanga" directed by Carl Colpaert and produced by Cineville. And
"Justice", the song she wrote for the film "Justice" opened the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. She owns the Wild Women
Snowboard Camps, which operates snowboarding camps for women around the USA. Her sponsors include Winterstick Snowboards,
Orvis, Smith glasses, Cold As Ice clothing and Gibson Guitars has a new Greta Gaines signature guitar.
