HYPNOS is a electronic trio from Quebec City, Canada. Imagine an industrial and rythmic foundation with a classical vocal edge..;-)Band/artist history
The year was 1996, that's when the hypnotic odyssey was lead to its first incarnation. Once upon a time, there was Éric Gagné, a guitarist who was known for his insatiable desire to deconstruct sounds generated by synthesizers and portable vacuum cleaners. This man had as a companion in adversity a hyperactive drummer who (usually) was called under the name of Frédéric Talbot. To bring their common and sharp vision to life all that was missing were some vocal cords that would understand them and that would
blindly accept to follow them for better or for worse. That's when Julie Tremblay made her appearance, and it's at that crucial moment that Hypnos was born. Elated by their recent union, and light-hearted by the collective transpiration that could result from it, they recorded during the fall of 1999 a first album (XXX) intended for the ears of the industry. On the road, they at last shared their quiet frenzy with the rest of the middle class through many concerts and a modest radio phonic coverage. These visual manifestations were presented mainly in the metropolitan area of Quebec City, and Montreal at venues such as Le d'Auteuil, La Fourmi Atomik, Le Kashmir, Le Cabaret du Musée Juste Pour Rire, and Le Café Campus.
The programme for the year 2000 was one of all dangers, because it saw Hypnos competing at the Envol Et Macadam contest, and also at the very known (and renown?) Polliwog. The band celebrated victory to the first, and was among the finalists at the second, this would allow them to perform during the Envol Et Macadam Festival opening for Nanette Workman, and through slightly more obscure ways, it gave them the opportunity to play live as an opening act for the Nightwish concert in the month of October of that same fated year.
And in January 2001, what else could happen?
Dazed by this last set of events, Hypnos took some time to rest, and began to work on a new album (Screwdriver), that should see the light of day during the month of October 2002. Of course the band went through many more adventures and peripetia, but for the good of all human beings and other life forms, it's best to limit ourselves to the essential, because Julie, the cracked operatic singer, Éric, the mad composer, and Frédéric, the bionic wrists drummer, will definitely continue to get talked about in the future.
To be continued...Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, we mostly play locally in Quebec and Ontario provinces.
