Humble Root is a southern rock band, but there's more to it than that. A mid 90's sound reminiscent of Soul Asylum but with a discernable Jayhawks type influence.
Band/artist history
Humble Root really started around 1995-6 when I was working at a shabby little curb store in the bad part of town. I developed a little rep for standing up to belligerent customers, which isn't easy to do, and one day in comes this kid with long black hair who was mouthing off to customers constantly, for no reason. I was impressed so naturally we spent the day together, we got in each other's faces and exchanged crazy quips, we raced our cars through the parking lots and streets around my apartment complex in reverse, and by the time we had come to a screeching halt, a lasting friendship was born. That was how I met Justin Albert. We went to New Orleans together and got baked, we went to see bands together, and he introduced me to his friend Burke. When someone asked Burke if he knew me, he replied "We're like two smooth, shiny little green peas in a big fuzzy purple pod." and in saying it he made it so. The three of us would meet up on those hot summer nights and strum our guitars and sing songs, and from the beginning, we all knew we had something special. We played together for a long time and wrote a lot of songs, we met our good friend Ms. Pat and we played in her house when Jesus wasn't visiting her. We played on and off under different names, with different people, until one day Justin and I decided to get serious and play shows, we got a practice space in the "humble building" in hattiesburg and "Humble Root" was born. We picked up a bass player with impressive vocal skills named Justin Stringer, but it wasn't until a drunken frat boy stumbled up to us at the bar after a show and asked to join our group that our signature sound was born on the smoking fret board of one Sam Marsal. We were only together for a short time in our final form but we did manage to record some of our many songs before life pulled us in different directions. We made music and memories together that we will all treasure forever.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
No, we play dead. Usually on the stage. Yes, I do like "it". Nope.
Your musical influences
The devil, mostly.
What equipment do you use?
Let's see, there was a bass guitar of some type, a les Paul, a Japanese Strat, a bunch of tama drums and chrome pipes and ziljian cymbals, a subway rocket amp or something maybe?
