Band/artist history
BIOLOGICAL CLOCK SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF HOMOGENIC Homogenic was formed in 2002 while Risa and Dina were attending the same high school. Realizing they had high musical aspirations (and talent), Dina coaxed Risa to write tunes of their adolescence at that point in time. Very clichéd. They did try to be honest about their potential. Since the formation of Homogenic, not once did it occurred to them to do covers. This came from their ideals of self satisfaction and creativity. In the beginning, Homogenic took a minimalist approach to their song-writing, even with the beats and notes that drived their music. Equipped only with a keyboard, they were able to write several songs. The vocals were by Risa, while Dina concentrated on music arrangement. Another reason that set them apart from the other bands was their disinterest in performing on stage. Their reason was rather simple: the time wasnt right and they were far from ready to perform live. On how they came to be known as such, Homogenic is the title of an album and song by an artist with extraordinary talent Bjork. Everyone knows her, and Bjork is one of their musical influences. Perhaps as a result of their indecision, they decided to take on the name Homogenic. Rather naïve indeed, taking a name on out of appreciation. It has to be stressed that while writing songs, never once did it occured to them to imitate Bjorks style or tunes. On the contrary, the sounds and music they created varies greatly. Even after graduating from high school, they were consistent with their music making. During this period, they recognized the need for a new stimulus, from someone who could enrich their music explorations. From a mutual friends recommendation, Juang was roped in to further enhance Homogenics music. Juang contributed with the sounds of his sampling, looping, and beats from a drum machine. Juangs involvement got them thinking of being more serious about in their works. Progressively, the new direction of their songs and lyrics, and their changing attitude towards music became a rallying issue. Their beautiful compositions with pop and electronic influences, in addition to the soft and smooth vocals, created new atmospheres for their listeners, lulling them into their world. They soon realised they had something good on their hands. Homogenic began having renewed faith in their creations when they started to enjoy performing live. A weekly on-air program by OZ FM - a famous radio station in Bandung, marked their first live performance. Later on, one of their songs Semu included as a bonus track in a compilation by the monthly Ripple magazine - received rapturous response from listeners, receiving the highest airplay in the afore-mentioned radio station. Semu became so popular that it received overwhelming song requests daily. This brought Homogenic the no.1 spot in the Top 21 Most Requested Songs chart at the radio station. The same happened with their subsequent single release, Hope, Meanness, and Decision. An extraordinary feat for the then unknown Homogenic. As a result, offers for live performances came flooding in. Realizing the need to entertain, Homogenic began to explore the art of performance on stage and consciously developed a more serious image. One of the ways they decided on was to integrate visual art with music in every Homogenic performance. Homogenics journey had only just begun. They worked tirelessly and patiently, trying to learn and do everything with precision. They are very thankful that the fruits of their hard work has brought Homogenic to a better place, recognized and accepted by the greater public, that they were able to perform in various shows across the country while climbing the charts of various radio stations with their singles. Encouragingly, all these while they have managed to preserve something they consider very important, that their music is understood and accepted without having to lose their ideals and visions. Good times and bad times. Nothing is ever so perfect. Juang, with a heavy heart, unexpectedly expressed his desire to leave Homogenic. Regrettably, Risa and Dina decided to continue with Homogenic in its original form. It wasnt long after Juangs departure that they met Dea who could temporarily fill the position left empty by Juang. Dea was able to complement their vision and gave his own special contribution to Homogenic. Even though his position as an additional player was rather new, Dea could easily understand and enhance Homogenics music, so much so he became a permanent member in their line-up. At this point, Homogenic is in a new phase. They have been continually exploring the music world, and now the opportunity is here for them to realize another dream an album. In March 2004 through FFWD Records, Homogenics first album entitled Epic Symphony was released. With 12 of their best compositions, this album is a rewarding proof of their continuous hard work. lady_tronic@yahoo.com digitalove@plasa.com
