Holly Penfield
Holly Penfield : Singer, Songwriter, Performance Artist. Melodic lyric driven songs of the Fragile Human condition.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Holly Penfield is of California origin. San Francisco to be precise. It was there that she took vocal lessons ( as a child ) with Judy Davis ( who also coached Barbara Streisand ). It was there she sang Burt Bacharach songs at a strip club in North Beach. Later in Los Angeles she released two pop records of her own songs on Michael Chapman and Nicky Chinn’s Dreamland label. A pretty eventful few years.
Her next major project was the self penned “Fragile Human Monster Show”. After numerous performances around LA and the release of “Parts Of My Privacy”, an album based on material from the show, Holly moved to the UK.
Her debut in the UK was at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she played for three weeks to critical acclaim. Following her Edinburgh success came a string of European dates including music festivals in Istanbul, Munich, France and Italy. Holly finally settled in London. There she held down a weekly residency at Kilburn’s famous Irish pub The Black Lion, it was at that same pub, at a weekly jazz jam, that Holly got up to sing and started a whole new chain of events....
Holly is now one of London’s busiest Jazz singers. Over the past couple of years she has performed regularly at Harvey Nichol’s Foundation and Fifth Floor restaurants, The Millennium Gloucester Hotel’s glamorous Conservatory restaurant, the world famous Cafe de Paris, China Jazz, China Blues, Mezzo and Pizza Express - to name but a few.
Now with the completion of the CD “Fragile Human Monster” Holly has successfully combined the best of both of her worlds. In the future expect to see Holly perform both her original numbers and her interpretations of jazz classics.
