Present Day -

A local band has taken the Quad Cities by storm. Exploding from the chaos of drummer Dan Hillyer’s basement, has emerged Hollow, a four piece hard rocking group with a no holds barred attitude that will crush anyone willing to listen. In less than a year’s time, Hollow has earned their way onto venues opening for national acts such as 40 Below Summer, Slitheryn, & FlickerStick. They have earned a name for themselves as the Quad Cities’ baddest rock band and they continue to live up to their high set standards.

From the very beginning, Hollow has had an interesting story. Drummer Dan Hillyer and longtime friend, bassist Brian Holmlund, garnered the notion of forming a band that would put the Quad Cities on the map. There was only one problem; finding a singer and guitarist that would round out the group.

“If anyone has looked for a singer in the Quad Cities, they know how hard it is to weed through the bad ones. From the moment that Jose stepped in, we knew that not only did he have the power and sound we were going for, but the chemistry was unbelievable.” Dan Hillyer

By some strange form of luck, Jose had been writing with a guitarist by the name of Tony Reeves for a little over a year. Jose brought up the fact that Tony wanted to check out a few practices and it was set; the Hollow lineup was complete.

“Tony and I had known each other for more than a year. We’ve gone through so many drummers and bassists; you could fill an arena with them. We even tossed around the idea of Tony playing drums and finding a guitarist, but then there was the trouble of finding a good guitarist. It was unbelievable how rare it was to find a drummer and a bassist looking for a singer and guitarist; and for us to find them as well.” Jose Urquiza

Hollow then spent the next month writing as much material as they could in hopes of recording an album and putting their name on the map. After only a month, on June 13, 2003, Hollow made their debut performance at Lumpy’s in Davenport. From then on, Hollow has been on a steady climb to the top.

Hollow earned their way onto 93 Rock’s Band-A-Monium, competing against more than 50 of the Quad Cities’ best bands, and they made their way into the top 2. Since then, they have recorded and produced their debut album and have begun to tour relentlessly.

One thing is for sure; you will definitely be seeing more of Hollow, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.
