Hoek

We are called Hoëk - not Hoek! Swedish, guitar oriented pop/rock band based in Stockholm, Sweden. All original songs. Been a band since 1997, with slight(?) alterations in the line up! Right now four members with the classical line up; vocals/guitar, lead guitar, bass and drums.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
1997 - Started out as a student band in 1997. 10 members playing covers. One gig! Did a reunion gig at halloween with 7 members left in the band. 1998 - Decided to play a cover gig at "Rock i tolvan". New bass player, and five of the original members. Line up: vocals, 2 guitars, bass, drums and alto saxophone. Split up after the gig. Fall of '98: Reunion gig at KTH. End of '98: Four of the members decided to reform the band, playing original material. The search for a new bass player ended in the singers basement... An old friend of the singer joined the band! Hoëk was formed! 1999 - Original material at "Rock i tolvan"! Rehearsals! 2000 - Half cover/half original gig at KTH. Summer of 2000, cover gig for drummer's sister's birthday. 2001 - Another gig at "Rock i tolvan". Fall of 2001: Gig at KTH. All original material. Winter 2001: The rehearsal studio was vacated. Rehearsals ended for a couple of months. 2002 - During the recording of the first demo track, 'Divide', one of the guitarists left the band due to musical differences. The current line up was cemented! Summer of 2002: the band found a new rehearsal studio in Sollentuna, Sweden. Summer of 2002: Demo recording of drum tracks in the recording studio. (Demo not yet finished...) 2003 - After a hectic year as an actor doing student theater, the lead guitarist found more time to rehearse with the band again, resulting in a gig at "Rock i tolvan". After looking for a new, more private recording studio the band moves into a basement in Bromma, Sweden, allowing the use of their own equipment, and more rehearsal dates. Demo ends up with the one track called Rise in the download section. 2004 - Rehearsals... Fall of 2004: Demo recording of drum tracks for another three demo songs. Guitar and bass tracks recorded. 2005 - Due to non-matching work-schedules the band takes some time off to finish the vocal tracks for the demo recordings. The goal is to have at least two songs ready by the end of the summer. Fall of 2005: Finally! The two demo songs History Hate and My Time see the light of day here on Soundclick! The plan is to start rehearsing again and hopefylle get a few gigs before the end of 2005.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We love playing live! (That's what you rehearse for, right?!) However, we do not gig that regularly! Hope to get that demo ready, hoping it will render some gigs!
