HiPPiE BIO

HiPPiE a.k.a. Duffcritter a.k.a. Iz is a 24 year old male from the North West of Tasmania. HiPPiE has been playing music since the age of 11years old. Inspired one day by watching his Mother play “How much is that doggy in the window”, HiPPiE picked up the guitar and hasn’t looked back since. Now 24 years old HiPPiE has written over 50 original songs ranging from soft acoustic songs, to funky Hip-Hop to powerful metal. Hippie not only had a strong love for playing and making music but also for a strong love for the industry.

In his High school years, HiPPiE was involved in his first band called Black Talon. Black Talon was a rock band that mostly played covers and a few originals. But as High school bands usually go they only managed to play at school events before the band dismembered. HiPPiE was one of the lead singers but he's most memberable moment playing in Black Talon was when they played "Rage Against The Machine’s" BULLS ON PARADE at the break up assembly, where he played the drums.

But as high school finished and Black Talon faded, HiPPiE still had the thirst of jamming and performing with a band. So picking up the Bass, HiPPiE formed an instrumental band with his brother (on Guitar) and good friend Ben Page (ex drummer from Nattie’s Ratties) called Optermusprime. The band played a lot of party gigs and mostly played metal, eighties songs (to please the crowds) and some metal tribal music. Optermusprime was more of a jam band than it was a stage band and in some ways a head of it's time

But sadly Optermusprime dismembered, with out the lead of a singer it made things a little difficult at live shows, especially in Tasmania where it is hard to get a gig as a rock band let along a tribal metal jamming band.

After the holidays of leaving High School and the dismembering of Optermusprime, HiPPiE headed to College. There he studied music as much as he could. Studying courses such as

Music Industry Skills Cert 2

General Music

Music Performance

Audio Recording

Through the Music Industry Skill course HiPPiE managed to get himself a job at a production company called Production Works pty ltd (HOBART) were he worked as a concert loader (Roadie). Where he would set up for big name bands, Bands such as AC/DC, Status Quo and Kylie Manogue

And through some of the musical courses, HiPPiE also managed to get himself into another band called KAZH. The band consisted of two lead singers, HiPPiE as the screaming metal singer and the other singer a Freestyle rapper. The band mostly played covers of Nu-Metal songs but later on developed a few originals. The band had a good following and had the potential to go somewhere. But as people get older that seem to drift apart and that’s exactly what happened to KAZH

At this point HiPPiE began to listen to lot of Hip-Hop. And formed an out-fit with a friend "Blair" and foremd 2MAD.Which later became 3 mad with an added memeber "Phil". But only after 6 months and a few gigs HiPPiE left 3MAD. 3MAD are still about but now go by the name of 3to2.

So after the Hip-Hop outfit Hippie decided to go back to Metal for a while. So he got together with his brother again and put some ads in papers to get the rest of the members. After a few months Hippie found an old friend from college who could played the drums well. And with a few fill in Bass players. A new band was formed, a metal band that wasn’t scared to go soft and not afraid to go hard. The band came under the name Fine Print.

Fine Print was a band that was more dedicated to go some where compared to the other bands Hippie had been involved in. In it’s time FinePrint manage to make a hand full of great songs. (One is featured as a secret song on HiPPiE solo debut album AHIMSA). But sadly only after 6 months Fine Print dismembered, HiPPiE put the dismembering down to actually trying too hard with their music or plainly just putting too much pressure on them-selves and each other. Later HiPPiE and His brother moved to Hobart

After Fine Print Hippie had a lot of trouble trying to find the right people to form another band with.

But as all this was happening Hippie had been writing his own material even since he had left high school and now some 4 to 5 years later, he had managed to write around 50 songs. Hippie always knew that he was going to do his own thing one-day. He had plans to make an album ever since he had started the music course in college. So in 2002 Hippie began his solo career. He began writing new material; material he could make into his debut CD. After the songs were made and some research done Hippie set off to find an Audio Engineer that could help in recording the album and fulfil his dream of his own debut album. Hippie found an Engineer from the old band FinePrint. One of the fill in Bass players (Craig Jones ex Dominion) had a small studio and knew how to make the most of it. So money exchanged hands and the recording began. Later Hippie found other artist that would work with him on the album.

Hippie’s solo debut album was given the name Ahimsa. (Ahimsa is a Tibetan word meaning non-violence upon everything. The albums sound is mostly acoustic guitar (Hippies favorite instrument) but does have his influences of Hip-Hop and Metal.

The album was featured on certain radio stations and newspapers and sold in local CD retailers around Tasmania.

Now a year after HiPPiE first release, He has manage to move into different aspect of his music abilities, where he started to produce music through computers, while all the time still keeping his passion for the acoustic guitar. Now it is 2005 and HiPPiE is now forming a new band Called Copious Fault. A modern Hip-Hop outfit with all the influences of all the bands above and a few new influences of Break beats and Drum and Bass. Copious Fault has been producing and writing music for the last 6 months and is getting reading to hit the studios to record their first EP size CD. HiPPiE also knee deep in his own solo experiments. Intends to release his second album some time next year, with a blend of Break Beats, Hip-hop rhymes, acoustic riffs and a few Drum and Bass beats. So keep your eyes open and your ears to the ground cause Tasmainia is a small place and its about time Tassie had it's own Band they can call there own.
