Hindsight 20/20 is a four piece emocore band from Richmond, VA. Known for their energetic live show Hindsight has rocked the stage with such great bands as The Early November, Spitalfield, Hidden In Plain View, Copeland, Denison Marrs, River City High, Schatzi, Feable Weiner, The Goodwill, The Drive, and they played the Vans Warped Tour. Mixing emo, screamo, and pop-punk makes the music that Hindsight 20/20 makes.
Band/artist history
Back in the summer of 2001, five kids got together in a garage and formed the band Hindsight 20/20. They had their first show about a week after the band was created, which meant they had to work fast . . . and they did! For hours each and every day, they wrote, played and practiced their hearts out in a cramped, hot garage. It was well worth it, though, because shows started coming in and they gained a small but loyal fan base. Soon, Hindsight 20/20 wanted to move up to bigger and better things, and they got their first chance when they were asked to play in a battle of the bands at the club Nation in Washington, D.C. This turned into more of a learning experience than a cause to celebrate. The band had a terrible show. From equipment problems to raging nerves, everything that could go wrong did. For many bands, this awful event would have set them back and slowed them down . . . for Hindsight, it became the impetus to regroup, recover, and reenergize. Remember Nation became their rallying cry, inspiring them to work that much harder and try that much more. As a result of having sold over one-hundred tickets to the Nation show (thanks goes to their die-hard Hindsight fans who traveled two hours and across state lines to root for their boys!), the band received ten hours of free recording time at Cue Recording studios in Falls Church, VA. Out of the ashes of Nation, came the band’s first CD, which they independently released and sold online and at their shows. Hindsight 20/20 had four specific goals at this time: play, build a fan base throughout Richmond, VA., raise money through shows, CD sales, and merch, and continue to create. The band declared the summer of 2002 The Summer of Hindsight as they worked full-time on new material during the day and rocked out at shows every night. Slowing down just a little when school started, they were finally ready to head back to Cue Recordings during their Christmas Break in December of 2002. Their new EP titled, No One Said It Was Easy, was soon gaining radio air play on Richmond’s Y101 (101.1) and Richmond’s The X (102.1). To promote their new release, the band booked every show they could and literally went out into the streets to spread the word. By this time, Hindsight was a fixture on the Richmond club scene, playing regularly at 929 Café (formerly Twisters and now Nancy Raygun) and Alley Katz. With an ever-growing fan base, the band started to get bigger and better shows, in and out of state. The Hindsight 20/20 trailer was finally on the road! The first of many memorable shows was with Drive Thru Record’s The Early November, followed by a show with Maryland’s own Supergiant MD and a band from Alabama, Kicking Howard, who is sponsored by Level 27 Clothing. Next was a show that was, by far, the biggest and most exciting for the band they were requested to open for Richmond’s own River City High (formerly with Doghouse and now with MCA). This show was a big bash for River City High who had been away recording for half a year in Canada . . . this show was their way to thank their loyal hometown fans. Also on this show were Doghouse artist Schatzi and Ventura California’s Army of Freshman. When RCH realized that Hindsight had made their own fliers and gone out and pounded the pavement to promote the show, they bumped them from the opening position to the number two slot. Hindsight’s elation over this move didn’t last long, however. This show turned out to be a real eye opener for the band, another one to be chalked up under the learning curve. The singer and the bass player, who had been with the band since the beginning, were just not carrying their weight; they lacked the drive and determination that the band required. In one of its darkest hours to date, the band had to part ways with two old friends and move on. So that the band could continue to progress with the least possible disruption, lead guitarist Josh Breth switched over to bass and lead vocals, leaving Peter Dolan on guitar and Danny Peterson on drums. To complete the transformation, the band added guitarist Sean Quish. A few days after Sean joined the band, Hindsight had yet another big show with Epitaph’s Matchbook Romance. To get ready, the band practiced every waking hour. After all the work and preparation, it turned out that Matchbook Romance was unable to make the show. But it still felt great to get up and play in front of an enthusiastic crowd and show everyone what the new Hindsight could do! The band continued to play each and every show that came their way (from garage band birthday parties to out of town gigs), and as always, their growing legion of fans made it all possible . . . and worthwhile. The next big step for the band their 2003 Mid-Coast Mini Tour and a chance to say thank you to Hindsight’s Mid-West fans from Kansas to Minnesota. Excited to be playing so far from home, an equally exciting opportunity lay on the horizon for the band. Hindsight 20/20 received news that they had been selected to play the Van’s Warped Tour Ernieball Stage at the Verizon Amphitheater in VA Beach on July 29, 2003! Since the band did not have any recordings of the new and improved line-up, they knew it was time to go back into the studio . . . and they knew that this CD needed to be better than anything else they had ever put out. They decided to go to Sound Of Music Studios in Richmond, VA to record their new EP, Shatter The Silence. Through it all, Hindsight 20/20 has been committed to the music and the fans . . . and to enjoying the ride, wherever it my lead. And that is the Hindsight 20/20 story so far.
