Hi-Met

Sunderland, United Kingdom
March 11, 2005
Hi-Met are an acoustic duo from Sunderland. They play original stuff, as well as the odd cover. they have just finished there first album 'Silently Screaming'.
Band/artist history
Hi-Met began as they intended to go on, with Dave and Mark meeting at a buskers night. Since that day, Hi-Met have consistently performed at local bars in busking fashion for 3 years, rarely missing a single week. The band started when Dave had been introduced to Mark through their mutual friend Adrian at a local venue known for its weekly buskers night. Dave watched Mark perform solo and observed that although he had vocal talent, he only had basic skill with a guitar. Upon introduction Dave offered his skills on guitar to play a few tracks together, initially for fun. Within the month, they had both met up to rehearse a few popular comedy songs and began playing these renditions in local venues. This could have been all it ever amounted to until it became obvious that crowds enjoyed hearing the two play. With a few venues under their belt and a few good crowd responses it was time to get a little more serious and come up with a name. After being announced as "Mark and Dave" each week it was obvious to both that they needed a catchier title. Mark suggested that the title should be relevant to the group and not just a random name and in discussion with the man that brought the two together for the first time, it was apparent that both Dave and Mark were slim, despite excessive eating and drinking habits and "High Metabolism" was a characteristic they both shared. Adrian abbreviated this into the much catchier moniker "Hi-Met" and the band took their first step into a much larger world. Finding venues to play at was easy as Sunderland had a thriving live music scene. Timing for the band couldn't have been better. With many venues to play at, "Hi-Met" took to playing in around 3-4 venues in a week. More cover songs were being learned and confidence on stage grew, yet another turning point was yet to come. "Hi-Met" recieved their first critisism upon playing at a new venue. After the short set of cover songs they were told not to come back until they had any original material. Both Dave and Mark were familiar with writing songs, but neither had thought about it in context with what they were playing together. In order to get it right, the band even took time away from their regular venues in order to spend more time writing. In time they discovered they could provide depth to their original material with 3 different methods of writing. Co-writing songs and writing them individually. Each of which provided 3 different distinct types of song due to the differences in influences. More time passed and the band grew more and more in confidence. The new songs were popular and it had become noticeable that they even had a small following of fans. Having never rushed things at any point, it wasn't until fans emerged that any idea of an album was conceived. Both had longed to release albums and at this point there was a golden opportunity. Co-operating on artwork, promotion and funding, work on "Silently Screaming" began. The title derived from an idea Mark had that described the music they both played as "Silently Shouting" and Dave added the polishing touch, making the album sound that little bit edgier. From here Hi-Met look onward and upward in the same fashion they have always approached the music. Slow and Steady. If music is an art then it is not to be rushed. The band are following steady plans on where to go next.
