Hedgehog and Fraud
This band was started to provide an antidote/alternative to the formulaic, radio-friendly dross being churned out as 'opium for the masses' and also to pay homage to the bands we really admire for their willingness to ignore conventional boundaries, their humour and their creative stylings.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Jean-Paul Hedgehog (Vocals & Other Noises) and Edwin Fraud (Guitar & Occasional Vocals) founded this band. Gary 'G-Man' Elsworth (Drums) and Bruce Conway (Bass) provided a monster rhythm section on some of our best recordings plus we have benefitted from the contributions of many other criminally-ignored fabbo musicians from time to time.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Not playing live at the moment. Special moments so far have always occurred during home recording or in the rehearsal studio.
Your musical influences
The Comsat Angels, Pere Ubu, A Certain Ratio, The Fall, Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Captain Beefheart, MX-80 Sound, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, David Bowie, Iggy Pop......... just about anyone good, really.
What equipment do you use?
As well as conventional instruments we have been known to use gardening implements and cooking utensils for that certain extra-special ambience!
Anything else?
When we started out this band was a two-person effort, but we've worked with some amazing people since then and we've had a lot of fun along the way. I intend to try and feature at least one track from each of the various band lineups and to post some interesting archive video eventually (if I can transfer it to digital without it self-destructing).
We love production effects on our recordings - echo, flange, phase, reverb, you name it!
We describe our style as 'Neo-garage, punk-modernist, jazz-wave, thrash-meandering'.
