Heartbreak Club

As ironic and self-deprecating powerpop purveyors, Heartbreak Club are caught somewhere between story-based satire and empathy, simultaneously mocking and embracing western world youth - think Joss Whedon writing for a Get Up Kids and Dinosaur Jr collaboration.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Heartbreak Club is an emotional headfuck teaming with credentials: the new EP, Lamecore, essentially a thinly veiled launching pad for the single "Bethanie", is out May 2007, having received healthy airplay throughout the USA, Canada and Australia on college, national and indie radio. The 'Bethanie" single and music video is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews, as has the '...lamecore' EP and the vibrant stage show. With the intention of recording a humble EP, "the Club" locked themselves into their makeshift studio (HBC H.Q) with Producer Luke Garfield (Lout). The end product snowballed after being mastered by Rick O'Neil (U2, Faith No More), culminating in it's international release and notoriety. Heartbreak Club has an acquired wealth of touring experience, least of which includes their inaugural US tour in August '07. HBC have played alongside national and international acts such as The Sleepy Jackson, Jonah Matranga, Faker, Bodyjar, Behind Crimson Eyes, The Devoted Few, Ground Components, Sekiden, Spod and Karnivool in supporting and festival (eg MySpace sponsored Strikeback) capacities, on top of their own interstate headline touring. Lamecore is available thru Reign Records (in Australia) and iTunes, DownloadPunk.Com, Napster and more in May 2007.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play live all over Australia and, as of August 07, the USA. We don't discriminate about venues, playing to over 5000+ people at festivals (e.g. Strikeback) or to 50 people at a local pub. Of course we like it, and for different reasons. It's always great to play for fans singing every word, but perhaps slightly more perversely, is playing for people who aren't sure whether we are serious or not, but they watch the full set nevertheless. All touring is a highlight, although we don't get as wild as we did in our heyday, 'cause, y'know, got to remain in character and all...
