Harold Whaley

Band/artist history
Harold Whaley was born and raised in a little town called Ocala, Florida. There were no urban radio stations in Ocala, so Harold learned to appreciate rock and country music, however, gospel and R&B were in his blood. Harold started grooming himself for the music industry at a very young age. His mother was a gospel and opera singer with a beautiful voice. Every time he heard her sing or listened to her play Al Green, Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder, he knew what he wanted to do. He joined the youth choir at church, and when he went to high school he joined the marching band and became one of the top trombone players in the state of Florida. The band gave Harold an appreciation for other types of music like Jazz and Symphony and even Country. Harold moved to Memphis to do studio work with Al Green and Patti Labelle, but soon learned that singing was not enough. He taught himself to play keyboards, write music, produce music, mix, master and do his own graphics as well as design websites. In 1994 Harold entered into a partnership with an independent label in San Diego, California called Deemo Records and Mr. Arthur Mitchell. In 1995 he released his first single entitled "Playthang", and in 1997 Deemo Records released his second single "2 Nite Gyrl", both songs meet with moderate success, but not as expected by Harold or the label. Harold and the label knew it was not the music; it had to be the politics of the business. He has been peforming as a backup singer for groups such as Patti Labelle, GQ, Heatwave, Denise Williams, and Many more. "I enjoy touring with Singers that I listened to when I was a kid, because they teach me so much about what not to do in this business. I think by learning from their past mistakes, I'm not as likely to make as many." Says Harold. In 1999 mp3.com re-released the songs on the internet: "Playthang " went to number two on the soul charts and "2 Nite Gyrl" went to number 8. Harold is consistently at the top of the Internet charts. Harold Whaley is set to release the Full-Length CD entitled "Like I Do" on Deemo Records in 2000. The album will feature real R&B No samples and all original music performed the old fashioned way." No gimmicks just a man, flat out singing.
