Bless the Telephone
I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.
Band/artist history
I've been working with my daughter, Rebecca Johnson, and a number of youth from the church Nison Wells, Princess Bolton, Achia Bolton, Raelon Bolton, Brettany Ervin. I also work with Lazarus Bolton, and Peaches McCain and Mitch Lohmen.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, I love sharing music live. My favorite thing is to go to jail and share with my brothers and sisters. It always turns into something where they want to share their gifts as well. I love it.
Your musical influences
When I started more than 25 years ago, I was all about the rap flow, but now I love working on the hooks and my focus is the overall music. I want to produce a "SONG" instead of a rap.
What equipment do you use?
Instrumentals by some of the best on Soundclick (Omito Beats, Frek Van Workem, and Fuago). And a great studio 416 Wabash.
Anything else?
If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame Mitch.
