Band/artist history
Hank Biggs, guitar and vocals:
Hank loves to entertain an audience. His joy is when people sing along and dance to the live music that the band is playing. Hank started out playing in surf bands in Sacramento. He played folk, blues and jazz in the Fremont, Ca area. After moving to Nevada County and playing solo in the local bars, Hank started the bluegrass band called Red Thistle. They enjoyed success in playing large outdoor venues and the County Fair. Later, Hank played in numerous country rock and hard rock bands in the area. The guys in the All Stars are so talented and so much fun to play with, says Hank, I think that shows when we hit the stage.
Bill Lapham, guitar and vocals:
Bill has played in bands in LA, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Northern Cal as well as parts of Asia. He has opened for numerous big name groups like Asleep at the Wheel and Elvin Bishop.
Bills hot guitar picking is influenced by Mark Knopfler, Peter Green and Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam). He is also in the band called Blues Highway. Bill and Kelly, his wife, own Soundcheck Music in Grass Valley, CA. Bill also collects vintage Fender guitars and amplifiers.
Rick Tracewell, vocals:
Rick was born and raised in San Jose, CA, moving to the Grass Valley area in 2001. He has been singing since he was old enough to speak (and that was pretty early on) and started writing songs at age 15. He could be found in his room as a kid strumming an acoustic guitar and singing to KISS albums (remember vinyl?).
His exposure to a lot of different styles of music growing up and working his mobile DJ business gives him an extremely wide range of musical influences including Billy Joel, KISS, AC/DC, Van Halen, Extreme, Huey Lewis & The News, Prince, The Beatles, Louis Prima, Glenn Miller, Dean Martin, Milli Vanilli (totally kidding) and many other artists.
He plays guitar and piano/keyboards and plans on getting more adept at both instruments.
Rick has a beautiful wife named Kristi and five great kids named Morgan, Kelsey, Nico, Kolby & Gianna.
Michael C. Klingensmith, drums:
Michael is the heartbeat of the band. His solid backbeat gets the audience tapping their feet and out on the dance floor. Michael put in time playing around the San Benito and Mendocino County music scenes before moving to Nevada County. He's at home on Latin percussion as well as drum set, and his last gig was as washboard player in an acoustic Delta blues trio.
His motto: "Less is more."
Mark Skrukrud, bass:
Mark is the backbone and drives the bands unique sound. His positive attitude toward performing is center to every show. Mark was active in the So Cal music scene before moving to Nevada County. He even worked as a bouncer in a country western bar. Mark started out playing trumpet and drums, switching to the Fender bass. He has studied music and performed with some of the best musicians in the area. His interests range from country and R&B to the blues. Mark sites B.B. King, the Beatles and the Doors as early influences.
