Guru Rug

Guru rug hails from San Diego, crafting harmonies and rhythms that sweep you off your feet and bring you to dance and float above the clouds. Greg pounds out the beat while Jonny and Brian jam up melodies to fall asleep to. At once transcendent, gentle and thrilling, guru rug keeps you guessing!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Guru Rug started in September 2003, but has been in the works for about three years before that with song writing and sun tanning. Greg wrote a bunch of lyrics after he learned three chords on a sad old acoustic guitar. By watching Friends and seeing Pheobe play "smelly cat" he realized that he too could write a song. So everyday, inbetween showers, he would put those three chords to use and even learned a fourth chord (but soon forgot it). At some point, Jonny was caught breaking and entering Greg's apartment to steal some toast and sausage left on the stove. No charges were made, but when Jonny heard one of Greg's songs, he said, "hey, is that one of Pheobe's songs?" From that point on, Jonny said he would go forward and spread the word of the simple song writer. Oh, and Brian we met through an ad in the Reader.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We have been writing and arranging for the last year while looking for the right bass player to finish the trio. We hope to play live within about three months.
