i am an obscure singer songwriter, like bob dylan wrote, a complete unknown. i was in a cover band in the 70's, had a duo /trio for a short time about 10 years ago, have done a few radio programs and a fair amount of solo performances. in the past i performed my own songs almost exclusively but now mix it up. covers and originals. currently i am a solo act in need of a good bass player.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
on a physical level people start to grow from day one then continue thru the cycles of life then pass on to the next dimension, some to life, some to death. and in art a person becomes alive to their talent at whatever physical age they happen to be when they realize the desire to express that thing with-in themselves. i saw a man play his mandolin and sing in detroit in the early seventies. i awoke then and have tried to be a song writer ever since. i was already in my late teens and had been playing guitar about two years, teaching myself. i am still growing and learning.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
use to but not so much any more, i'm currently working toward another solo act . i have mixed feelings about performing solo, love/hate it. but if i could get together with the right people i would really prefer having a band or at least a duo. its really hard to make that happen at my age. i have played bars, coffee houses mostly.
Your musical influences
the most influencial music was the stuff coming out in the late sixties and early seventies. the guitars gods like eric clapton, jimmy hendrix. but bob dylan was and is a definate in fluence. i also liked ravi shankar and am very fond of classical music. and i like alot of the old mountain music and the blues artists. i have alot of appreciation for anyone who is skilled with the guitar.
What equipment do you use?
right now i am down to one cheap classical guitar, a taylor drednought acoustic/electric. a fender precision bass, a lone star mandolin, and a 335 epiphone electric. i have a carvin acoustic amp, a vox electric practice amp, and a crate acoustic amp.sm 57 & 58 mics.
Anything else?
the idea of achieving success in the field of song writeing has always seemed well beyond my grasp and songwrting must satisfy something else as it has never really produced a satifactory or reliable income for me. that had been my goal. now i write and play mostly for my own enjoyment. this line from a jim croce song says it best: "i've got a song, i've got song, and i carry it with me and i sing it loud,if it gets me nowhere, i'll go there proud.
