To classify the music of Gone To Earth in one single genre would not do it justice. While the melodic guitar riffs resemble that of alternative rock, the electronics and djing add a completely new dynamic. “Some describe us in the vein of a happier Nine Inch Nails, maybe with a touch of Incubus”, says bassist and founding member Josh Rieger. Guitarist Jon Maisel adds, “We all have different influences which are clearly reflected in our music and live performances”. Formed in mid 2001 by Josh Rieger, Jon Maisel and DJ SKuBa, Gone To Earth experimented with many styles of music before finally finding their niche with the addition of drummer Voley Martin. “In a lot of ways he was the catalyst”, explains SKuBa, “before him we didn’t have a common direction, he brought all our influences together.” Throughout 2003, the band recorded and gigged in such prestigious NY venues as CBGB’s, The Continental, Lamour’s , The Dublin Pub, and The Downtown; opening for such national acts as former Dream Theater keyboard player Derek Sherinian. Although playing instrumentally, the band received an excellent response from fans and booking agents alike. Finally, after a 3 year search, in early 2004 the last piece of the puzzle was added in the form of vocalist Marcus Klavan. His dedication was immediately evident when he relocated from his home in Maryland to Long Island, NY. Marcus summed up his decision by saying, “Music is all I ever dreamed of doing, and these guys offer the best opportunity to do what I love for the rest of my life.”
