Ghoulunatics
Those who have had the opportunity to attend a Ghoulunatics concert have said the same thing: This Montreal based band has an unparalleled energy and presence on stage, with outrageous and often unpredictable performances by their singer Patrick Mireault, keeping the crowd on their toes at all times.
Ghoulunatics are presently one of the busiest bands in the Canadian underground scene playing extensively throughout the provinces of Ontario and North America’s metal mecca, Quebec. The musical style of Ghoulunatics has evolved over the years. Their riffs are heavy and groovy, with tons of catches and melody that pleases their fans, which range from the hardcore, metal, and extreme metal crowd to the lovers of alternative and stoner rock.
It was in 2002 that Ghoulunatics won the prize for ‘Best Metal Band’ at the MIMI (Montreal International Music Initiative) awards gala, beating out bands like Neuraxis, Martyr, Gorguts, and Kataklysm. Ghoulunatics is the only band to be nominated for the award 3 years in a row. Their producer Pierre Rémillard was also nominated at the MIMI’s for ‘Producer of the year’ for his work on the King of the Undead album. Since the release of King of the undead, the band has received much notoriety with numerous great reviews, topping independent radio charts, interviews, television appearances, as well as being nominated for ‘Album of the year’ at the Canadian Independent Music Industry awards gala in Toronto, Canada.
This year marks the release of their 4th studio album Sabacthany (May, 2004), a live album It’s a Live! (May, 2004), and a special edition DVD to commemorate the band’s 10th anniversary (November, 2004). With a new album, a Canadian and/or European tour around the corner (summer/autumn 2004), and with heavy promotion, you will see why Ghoulunatics have the reputation for not being afraid of anything, because they are definitely a band to be reckoned with.
