Simply reading about the culture of peoples named Caddo, Kickapoo, Atakapas alongside the more familiar tribal names of Kiowa, Choctaw and Commanche is enlightening. How trade and interaction with Apache, Pueblo tribes and the Spanish and French cultures dating back to 1540, 1640 and 1740 creates a history that staggers the imagination.
